Winter Skin Blues

Winter is just about here, and with the freezing cold air settling in..your skin is really going to be feelin' it. Dry, chapped, flaky skin is extremely common come winter time. I'm going to be giving you a few tips, and directions for the perfect DIY facial masks to suit your skin problems.

Dry, Tight Skin
1/2 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup chopped avocado
1 egg white
2 teaspoons powdered milk

Put all these in a blender, apply in small circular motions, and leave on for 30 minutes. Cucumber and avocado are very soothing to sensitive, dry skin. Avocado is filled with omega 3 fatty acids and will keep moisture in, while the cucumber calms, and cools the skin.

Brighten Up Your Skin
1/2 cup unripe papaya, diced
1 teaspoon plain yogurt
1 teaspoon honey

Put it in a blender, slather it on. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. AHA's (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) is present in the unripe papaya. You will feel sort of a tingling sensation when putting this mask on. The AHA's are getting rid of all the dead skin, thus will cause a bright, healthy glow.

Acne Prevention
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon lemon juice

If oily, acne-prone skin is your dilemma, try this mask. Beat the whites into the lemon juice, apply it like a lotion. Leave this mask on for 20 minutes. The egg whites and lemon work together to prevent acne, and give you a youthful glow.

  • Make sure you're drinking the daily amount of water that you should be having.
  • Moisturize! Especially when coming out of the shower. I use Vaseline. It locks all the moisture in and you wipe it off your face after 5 minutes. It sounds gross, but hey! It's what Marilyn used!
  •  Start a vitamin regimen. Vitamin E, or even Biotin would definitely keep your skin looking healthy. Obviously, consult your doctor before starting any type of pill or vitamin!
  • Try not to exfoliate everyday. Maybe twice or three times a week

I'm sure all of you have atleast 1 ingredient in the house already, if not all of them. These are super simple to make, and keep your skin looking healthy, radiant and fresh. The holidays are stressful enough, why worry about your skin?

Winter '12 Beauty Trends

The year is now winding down, but beauty trends are still heating up. Winter '12 is all about bold lips, brows, and eyes. I'm going to tell you about this winter's hottest trends!

Bold Red Lips- Make a statement at the holiday party you're attending. Bold, bright, red lips are always a classic, but will definitely turn up the heat this winter.

How you can pull off this look: You can't go wrong with your LBD, a cute clutch, and a modern-retro makeup look. You really want to make your lips the focal point, so remember to not over do the eyes, and face. Go for a little taupe in the crease, and a peach blush with your bold red lip!

Heavy Cat Eye- Can you say hello New Years? This bold look is perfect for your New Years party. Turn up the drama with sexy, cat-lined eyes.

How you can pull off this look: It's New Years, go for something with sparkle. Wear a cobalt blue dress, with a black sequin clutch, and some cute black heels. Since the eyes are so bold, I suggest you tone down your face and lips. Be sure to wear a nude lip to pull this look together.

Pink Cheeks- Seeing the tree in the city? It's already going to be cold, so you'll already have a natural flush. This look is perfect for day time. Put some Doll-Pink blush on the apples of your cheeks for a cute, fresh look.

How you can pull off this look: Knit/print leggings, Uggs, and a knit beanie. Luckily for a bold cheek, you can wear some color on your lip. Because it's already going to be cold outside, a tinted lip balm is in store for you. Sugar Kisses in Passion is a perfect tinted balm to keep you moisturized all day!

These are my favorite trends for winter and hope you find one you like! xx

What Lip Shade is Right for You?

Choosing the right lip color can determine whether your entire makeup look is classy or trashy. Here's a few tips on choosing the right color for your skin tone, to create an even more beautiful you!

Fair Skin-Luckily, fair skin tones look nice in just about every shade. Colors like; nudes, peach, light pink, corals, and light berry tones are the right bet for you. I have very fair skin, and I personally love fire engine red, light pinks, and nudes. You want to stay away from brown shades because it will look like you just scarfed down a chocolate frosted cupcake..and that's not an attractive look. I suggest you use NARS Funny Face.

Medium Skin- This skin tone looks fabulous in deep plums, berries, and mauves. Don't be afraid to go dark. Stay away from bright reds though, they tend to wash you out. I suggest you try Bite Beauty lipstick in Fig.

Dark Skin- Reds, wines, and chocolates look beautiful on you. Anything with warm tones suit this skin tone best. Kat Von D's Cathedral will look great on your lips!

If you're wearing any bright or even neon-toned lip color...skip the gloss. Totally trashy looking.

As for frosty pink... trashy looking as well.

Don't be afraid to try out new things...have fun with it!!

Gobble Til Ya Wobble Thanksgiving/Fall Look

So, Turkey day is coming up .. and you know what that means? Well, yeah..alot of eating and drinking..but it also means a fun look so when Grammy comes over, she will be too busy looking at this glam look I created for you instead of telling you that you gained some weight!

I'm going to give you a tutorial for the look and a couple tips for thanksgiving so that you're not bloated and hungover for "Black Thursday" shopping. (Because spending time with family is overrated) ..totally joking.

For this look, you will need:
Eyeshadow:
Metallic Nude
 Espresso Brown
Taupe
Falsies (optional)
Liquid Liner
Kohl Black Eyeliner
Mascara
Primer

I used the eyeshadows from my Lorac Pro Palette (which I am in love with) I cannot stress enough how important eyeshadow primer is. It is 100% essential in pulling a look together.

So I started out using my Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Primer that came with the palette.
*Using the Metallic nude, and a flat shader brush; swipe it all over your lid. Use it in the inner corner and under the brow bone as well.

*Taking Espresso Brown, and a crease brush; swipe it in to your crease. You're going to want to drag it out in an Oval shape. Don't worry about blending yet.

*Next I used the Taupe, and put it right above the Espresso Brown and using a blending brush, I blended the two together to look like its fading into one another.

*To make it a bit more dramatic, I used Bombshell Liquid Liner, and created a cat eye.

*I used my falsies, and put a couple coats of Falsies Mascara on my top and bottom lids.

*Put the Black eyeliner on your lower water line

**Complete the look with a light pink or nude lip color and you're ready to gobble til ya wobble! (Very corny, I know.)

Nooooowww, for tips on feeling less bloated after eating so much:

1. The most important of all of them. DRINK WATER. Lukewarm preferably. Lukewarm water helps speed digestion up and will help all this food pass through your system quickly.

2. Don't just sit around, you have to keep moving..even if it means helping mom clean up the table

3. Eat slow. There's alot less air intake when you're eating slow. After each bite, put your fork down and chew, til you're ready for the next bite.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving :) ..I'll probably be writing alot more tomorrow considering this blog is new :-*
